What is ABA?

The science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a systematic approach that focuses on analyzing and modifying human behavior by identifying the variables associated with maintaining those behaviors.

While ABA is most commonly used as an intervention for individuals with autism, ABA techniques have also been effective in a variety of other areas. More information can be found here.

For the past 30 years, behavior analysts have evaluated the use of ABA techniques for increasing sports performance. More recently, ABA's application of these techniques in the sports setting has grown substantially and has proven to be effective in increasing skills across several sports, including:

  • Football

  • Baseball

  • Basketball

  • Soccer

  • And more..

  • Gymnastics

  • Track and Field

  • Swimming

  • Figure Skating

  • Tennis

Findings also suggest that when behavioral coaching methods are used, athletes will acquire skills much more quickly as opposed to traditional coaching methods and the skills learned in practice generalize to game settings.

ABAPAT's mission is to continue expanding the field of behavior analysis into the sports setting by using a scientific, evidence-based approach to enhance athletic performance and increase overall health and fitness of individuals.
